Elie Wurtman Chairman
Elie Wurtman is a General Partner at Benchmark Capital. He has extensive experience in the management of technology companies, having founded six companies in the past ten years. He founded and took public deltathree.com (Nasdaq: DDDC), a leader in IP telephony (top market cap $1.8 billion), as well as Ambient, a data communications company. In addition. Elie developed and took public TTR Technologies, a software security company, and co-founded and sold NomadIQ, a leader in wireless data applications, to Omnisky (Nasdaq: OMNY), for $42 million.
Dan Steere Chief Executive Officer
With more than 20 years of experience in mobile devices and services, Dan brings a blend of business strategy, marketing skill and technology acumen to GreenRoad. Prior to joining GreenRoad, Dan was VP of Sales and Marketing for Matrix Semiconductor. At Matrix, Dan pioneered the introduction of groundbreaking technology for mobile electronics and content publishing.
In addition to driving marketing and sales growth, Dan served as Matrix's CFO from 1999 - 2004. After Matrix was acquired by SanDisk Corporation, Dan served as VP of OTP and Consumable Memory at SanDisk and subsequently as Entrepreneur in Residence at Benchmark Capital. Prior to Matrix, Dan was an early entrant into business-to-business Internet services as Business Unit Manager at pcOrder.com. Earlier, Dan held a series of marketing positions at Intel focused on mobile computing and advanced consumer electronics. Dan began his career at Citibank. Dan received an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business, where he was named an Arjay Miller Scholar, and an AB Computer Science from Harvard University.
Shai Weiss Director
Shai Weiss is a Partner of Virgin Green Fund (VGF) and a member of its Investment Committee. Prior to founding VGF, Shai was with ntl:Telewest (now known as Virgin Media), the UK and Europe's largest cable operator where he was part of the turn-around of ntl with the stock increasing fivefold in 2003. Shai was also behind the recent merger between Virgin Mobile UK and ntl:Telewest and the re-brand to Virgin Media. The Virgin Group is now its largest shareholder.
At ntl Shai was Managing Director of Consumer Products, responsible for the development and delivery of internet, telephone and TV for the consumer division and for the Virgin.net broadband ISP and also the Integration Director for the merger between ntl and Telewest. Shai's other positions with ntl include Director of Operations for the ntl Group where he was responsible for major operational and business development projects, joint ventures, and relationships with strategic partners, as well as Director of Financial Planning for the consumer division.
Prior to ntl, Shai set up the European office of Jerusalem Venture Partners, an early stage technology venture fund, and was a senior associate with Morgan Stanley's hi-tech mergers and acquisitions and corporate finance team.
Shai has an MBA from Columbia University in New York.
Hod Fleishman Director
Hod Fleishman is a Co-Founder and Chief of Safety of GreenRoad, and a member of the company's board of directors. Having served as CEO for the company's first four years, Hod now leads partnership development and drives GreenRoad's success in implementing data-based safety programs that yield substantial cost and risk reductions to fleets and insurance companies. Hod previously led chemical and biological protection systems design and implementations for consumer applications. He was an associate professor at Bezalel Art and Design Academy in Jerusalem and Lev Institute of Technology.
Geoff Tate Director
Geoff has more than three decades of experience in technology and has focused his professional interests in recent years on investing and nonprofits. From 1990 to 2005, Geoff served as CEO of Rambus, which focuses on the invention and design of high-speed chip interfaces, and he served on its board until 2006. Under his leadership, Rambus grew from a startup with two founders and a single engineer into a company with about a $2 billion market capitalization and operations worldwide. Prior to Rambus, Geoff spent more than a decade at Advanced Micro Devices, where his positions included serving as senior vice president for all Microprocessors and Logic. He also held a variety of marketing, finance and coordination roles for Imperial Oil.
In addition to serving on GreenRoad’s board, Geoff serves on the board of another venture backed company. He is also the Chair of the Dean’s Advisory Committee for Engineering at Cal Poly and serves on the advisory board for the Department of Computer Science at the University of Alberta.
Geoff holds a Bachelor of Science degree in computer science from the University of Alberta and a Masters in Business Administration from Harvard.
Pat Burtis Director
Pat is an investment manager with Amadeus, and leads the firm's Cleantech practice. Pat joined Amadeus in 2006 through the Kauffman Fellows program. As part of his Kauffman Fellowship, Pat also held a joint appointment with Imperial College's Energy Futures Lab.
Prior to joining Amadeus, Pat was an independent management consultant for seven years in the Cleantech, Life Sciences, and Materials Science fields. Concurrently, from 2003-2004 Pat served as VP of Finance and Operations for H2onsite, a California-based hydrogen generation start-up. Pat began his career with five years in Bain & Co's Boston office, where he advised clients in a number of sectors. He has also served as a Practice Area Fellow in McKinsey's Electric Power & Natural Gas group. Pat holds a BA from Dartmouth College, USA and a MA in Environmental Management from the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies, where he focused on energy and climate change. Pat is an American citizen and speaks Spanish.
Roberto Bonanzinga Director
Roberto is a Partner with Balderton Capital. Prior to joining Balderton, Roberto spent 15 years working with entrepreneurs in the US and in Europe. Most recently, he acted as an interim CEO for Jambaz and non-executive director/adviser to numerous companies including Jaiku (acquired by Google NASDAQ: GOOG), Mobango, Piczo, Woome and our own portfolio company Pageflakes.
Roberto's past operational experience included helping to pioneer VoIP in Europe while serving as SVP of Marketing and Business Development at Viatel. He was also VP of Services and Marketing at Netscalibur, where he built the pan-European organization. Additionally, he has held senior management positions in Silicon Valley with Topica, Fabrik Communications (acquired by Critical Path) and Information Access Company (acquired by Thomson Corporation NYSE:TOC).
Education: B.A. in Business Administration from Bocconi University in Milan, Italy, and a European Commission-sponsored MSC in Electronic Information Management from Sheffield University in the UK.
Nicholas K. Pianim Director
Nicholas is a Managing Director with DAG Ventures. Prior to joining DAG in 2007, Nick was Vice President of Corporate Development at Juniper Networks where he was responsible for acquisitions, commercial transactions and venture investments. Previously he was CFO for Ensemble Communications where he oversaw corporate development, and CEO of iAsiaWorks, a NASDAQ listed datacenter and managed services company.
He also worked with Enterprise Partners Venture Capital on a variety of development and investment assignments and with Morgan Stanley International. Nick received a BSc in Electrical Engineering from Tufts University and an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.
Richard Anton Director
Richard is a partner at Amadeus, where he specialises in communication and software and IT-related cleantech opportunities.
Prior to Amadeus, Richard worked as a management consultant, a hands-on finance and business development executive and a turnaround manager. Entering venture capital in 1994 he joined Apax Partners, where he made a number of early stage investments, including Neurodynamics and Autonomy. Richard was subsequently director of business development and finance at these companies.
Richard holds an MBA from INSEAD and a BA and MA in Mathematics from Christ's College, Cambridge. He speaks French.
